Hi Lidiya - love that you had a Moog (sticker, I think?) in one video along with a Devo t-shirt. My Moog t-shirt is one of my prized possessions (along with my Roland System 100M one) - I'm a total analogue synth nerd - is that one of your hobbies / passions too, or was it just a random purchase? A couple of more serious, writing-related questions: 1) Which of your books would you say is the most 'Cottagecore'? and 2) Which platforms do you prefer self-publishing on (and why, if you feel inclined to share)? Thanks :-)
Oh that's SO awesome! We do actually have a Moog Matriarch...which...we just scrounged and sold some stuff to buy because they are based here in Asheville but were recently bought out by a much larger company, and we had a feeling they might be moving production overseas. (From what I've heard they will continue to make the highest-end ones in Asheville, but probably not the Matriarch or anything else we could reasonably afford.) We really wanted an Asheville-made Moog, so...she's here!
Buuut we haven't been able to afford the amp to really get going. Kind of bought it hastily due to that circumstance. I have NO idea what I'm doing with playing it, but a lot of my favorite bands use analog synths, including Devo, Kraftwerk, Roxy Music (I think I might be a serious contender for the biggest under-60 Roxy Music fan in America, LOL) & early Eno works (and Eno produced works), Giorgio Moroder's various stuff, etc...
My most cottage core books are either Doll Girl Meets Dead Guy (the heroine is a baker and very sweet, the guy runs an apothecary and is from a kind of goth-y culture but it's not really dark in any way) or Between the Sea and Sky (written as Jaclyn Dolamore) which is about a mermaid, a winged guy, and a bookstore.
As for the other question, that's a long answer. I have a video in the queue about it, and will also touch upon in in my very next video about how much money I've made self-publishing.
Hi Lidiya - thanks so much for your reply. Only just spotted the notification in my Spam Filter. "a Moog Matriarch" - oh, wow! That's patchable / semi-modular! Total Synth Envy LOL I've started getting into Eurorack recently, so loooove patchable gear! That's a beaut of a synth you've got there :-) "but a lot of my favorite bands use analog synths, including Devo, Kraftwerk, Roxy Music (I think I might be a serious contender for the biggest under-60 Roxy Music fan in America, LOL) & early Eno works" - being at the other end of the Age Spectrum LOL, I ADORE those early Eno solo albums - espesh the first 3 - bought 'em in the mid-70s and they're still some of my top go-to records :-) "Giorgio Moroder" - so great too! :-)
"My most cottage core books are either Doll Girl Meets Dead Guy" - ah, thanks for that :-) Yes, you've mentioned that and "Between the Sea and Sky" on a couple of videos - my oldest daughter D&Ds online with some friends as, believe it or not, a magical baker - so that could be right up her street! I will mention this too her and / or check it out myself. Thanks! Just watched your v recent video that ran through some of your fave cottage core / cosy books - a very enjoyable watch! That's the second time in a few days that someone has rec'd The Blue Castle. May have to check that out too. Thanks so much for sparing the time to answer - appreciated! :-)
Just popping in to let you know that your youtube channel (and substack) found me while editing my second book, that is probably as hard to market like the first one. I find your videos very inspiring to keep on writing the stories that want to be told and not necessarily those that turn out to be a huge hit. Writing is my side-kick and I will probably always work the 9-5 job as I am way to scared to live the creative life fulltime, but I did have some huge doubts about even trying to publish.
I do hope that your Hidden World books will get all the attention from the audience to keep you flowing. And I will definitely give them a try (as soon as my tbr is a bit smaller).
I hope I can keep boosting you along the way with your writing. I think it is really important to tell those stories...we never know which ones will resonate, even if it's with just a few people.
Take your time with the TBR, I definitely understand...
I'm really enjoying The Sorcerer's Concubine so far. I'm a "sociologist" type world builder, so I find the rich world with it's cultural elements very satisfying.
For a writing craft book, if I may, I'll throw in a recommendation for The Secrets of Story by Matt Bird. His book The Secrets of Character is also worth a look.
